Müller-Hinton Agar (MH-Agar) is a non-synthetic, economical, non-selective medium for determining the susceptibility of rapidly growing aerobic organisms to antimicrobial agents.
According to RiliBÄK / EUCAST, up to 6 antibiotics can be tested simultaneously on these 90mm plates.
The MH medium can also be used for conducting the inhibitor test.
As a synthetic alternative, Iso-Res medium ("susceptibility agar") is available.
For agar diffusion, 2-3 colonies of a bacterium from pure culture are dissolved in 2 ml NaCl 0.85% according to the McKirby method. If a densitometer is available, standardization to McFarland 0.5 can be performed (but is not mandatory if deviating). 100 µl of this inoculum are pipetted onto an MH plate and spread evenly with a fresh inoculation loop. Then the antibiotic discs (individually or with a stamper) are applied. When loading the discs, the applied standard (EUCAST or CLSI) must be taken into account. For reading according to EUCAST, we provide reading templates as service material.

For the inhibitor test, Bacillus subtilis is used as the germ. The corresponding strain can also be purchased from us. It can be stored cost-effectively using the Cryobank method and cultivated as needed.
