There are numerous sets for sample collection, consisting of a swab with a breakpoint, a transport vessel, and transport medium.

We favor the flocked swabs from Copan, suitable for almost all types of swabs and pathogens.

FLOQSwabs™ (with UTM), eSwabs™ (with Amies transport medium)

Areas of application: Eyes, nose, nasopharynx, pharynx, urogenital area, skin, ...

When taking samples from a patient, great care should be taken, as the success of isolating and identifying pathogens depends on it.
1. Open the swab bag and remove the sample tube and the swab.
2. Perform the swab on the patient.
3. Twist and remove the cap of the sample tube. Be careful not to spill the transport medium.
4. Insert the swab into the tube until the red marked breakpoint is level with the mouth of the tube.
5. Break the swab in the tube and dispose of the broken part of the swab shaft in an approved medical waste container.
6. Close the sample tube with the cap.
7. Label the sample tube with the patient's data. Send the sample to the analysis laboratory.

As a general rule: the shorter the time between sample collection and processing, the better the processing will be.

Selection of the correct transport media:

UTM:
The "Universal Transport Medium" (UTM™) system is used for collecting and transporting clinical samples that may contain viruses, chlamydia, mycoplasmas or ureaplasmas. The UTM™ kit can be used for all common procedures such as virus culture, nucleic acid amplification and antigen detection.
We carry Copan UTM™ products with various flocked swabs (FLOQSwabs™).

Amies:
Universal transport medium for the collection and transport of clinical samples containing aerobes, anaerobes, fastidious bacteria, viruses and chlamydia. Suitable for all common clinical laboratory procedures such as microbiological culture of aerobes, anaerobes and fastidious organisms, as well as antigen and nucleic acid detection of bacteria, viruses and chlamydia.
We carry Copan eSwabs™ products with various flocked swabs (FLOQSwabs™).

The applicator sticks FLOQSwabs™ in the test tube (without medium) are sterile, ready-to-use systems for collecting clinical samples. The applicator sticks are suitable for short-term contact with the human body.
