The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, i.e. for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for several strain bank setups.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the CultiControl products with the same ATCC® numbers, but are available with only one pellet and one vial with rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the CultiControl products with the same ATCC® numbers and are available as a product with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to check provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality controls. If you have any questions or need help, please contact us. We will be happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Do reference strains require approval?
The approval requirement for the use of reference strains in registered medical laboratories, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend that you informally report this to the competent supervisory authority, e.g. the regional government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option of (1) maintaining the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowth of the stock cultures) and storing them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly create fresh cultures from fresh pellets. You can choose between CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
