The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, thus for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank establishments.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the equally ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the equally ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you wish to verify provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. Should you have any questions or require assistance, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is the handling of reference strains subject to approval?
There is no clear regulation regarding the obligation to obtain approval for the use of reference strains in a registered medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management for your in-vitro diagnostics. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to your competent supervisory authority, e.g., the regional government office.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and re-culturing of the stock cultures) for long-term storage. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly prepare fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this, you can choose between CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
