In Otis' urethrotomy (internal), a blind transurethral sounding of the urethra is performed with Otis' urethrotome and dilation of the urethra to the desired width, adjustable on the urethrotome. A blade is then pulled through the urethrotome, incising the stretched urethra at 12 o'clock. After the urethral incision, an indwelling catheter is usually inserted for 2–7 days, optionally under antibiotic protection.
Regular urethral dilations (by the patient using suitable intermittent self-catheters) are suitable to prevent/reduce re-stenosis.
Scope of delivery:
- 1 Dilator
- 2 Blades
- 1x attachment each: conical, flat, and ball
- Wooden case
A replacement blade can be found under Replacement blades for urethrotome.
