The CultiControl reference microorganisms from the ATCC(R) collection are lyophilized and available as a product with 5 pellets, i.e., for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank facilities.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference microorganisms correspond to the CultiControl products with the same ATCC® numbers, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference microorganisms correspond to the CultiControl products with the same ATCC® numbers and are available as products with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you wish to verify provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is handling reference strains subject to approval?
The requirement for approval when using reference strains in a registered medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management for your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to your responsible supervisory authority, e.g., the district government (Regierungspräsidium).
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowing of stock cultures) and store them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly prepare fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
