The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank facilities.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the equally ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the equally ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as products with varying quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) for the products / devices / methods you wish to check provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us. We will be happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is handling reference strains subject to approval?
The requirement for approval when using reference strains in a registered medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to the responsible supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowth of the stock cultures) and store them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you work without your own cryobank and regularly create fresh cultures from fresh pellets . For this, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
