Staph. aureus ATCC 29213 KWIK STIK (2)
Which reference strains do you need for internal quality control?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls from the manufacturers. If you have any questions or need help with this, please contact us. We will be happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Do reference strains require approval for use?
The requirement for approval when using reference strains in the medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management for your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. We therefore recommend that you make an informal notification to the responsible supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option of either (1) subculturing the strains yourself using a cryopreservation method (freezing and regrowth of the stock cultures) and storing them long-term. For this, we recommend KWIK-STIK™ combined with a storage system (e.g. Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2), if you do not want to subculture the strains yourself but want to repurchase them after use, you can choose between LYFO DISK™ and Microtrol™.
For target results for resistance testing, please refer to the current EUCAST QC table.
Application videos on how to handle the reference organisms and how to set up the cryobank can be found in our "Self-study" section at www.aurosan.de
We have also compiled a further overview on the topic of "Reference strains for internal quality control" in our Info Memo.
