Replens™ pH - for the right vaginal pH balance
Replens™ pH is a hormone-free vaginal gel for the prevention and treatment of bacterial vaginosis.
For pH-dependent vaginal discomfort, Replens™ pH long-lastingly normalizes vaginal pH and thus promotes vaginal balance.
It quickly relieves the typical symptoms of a vaginal infection, such as burning and itching, altered discharge, and eliminates unpleasant intimate odor.
Thanks to its patented, bioadhesive gel formulation, Replens™ pH adheres to the vaginal mucosa like a protective film and works for up to 3 days.
Replens™ pH long-lastingly normalizes vaginal pH and supports the proliferation of the body's own lactic acid bacteria.
Acute vaginal infections can thus be treated.
By stabilizing a healthy vaginal pH, Replens™ pH effectively prevents the (re)occurrence of vaginal infections. Especially after any treatment of a vaginal infection with antibiotics or during a (systemic) antibiotic therapy for other diseases, the use of Replens™ pH is recommended to restore vaginal pH balance. Also as a post-treatment for thrush (e.g., Candida).
Learn more about vaginal infections on our advice page Vaginal infection.
Recommended use:
For the prophylaxis of bacterial vaginosis, Replens™ pH should be applied every third day.
For the treatment of bacterial vaginosis, Replens™ pH should initially be applied once daily for one week according to the instructions. After that, to maintain pH balance and prevent symptoms from recurring, Replens™ pH should be used as described under prophylaxis of bacterial vaginosis (every 3rd day).
Ready-to-use single-use applicators enable easy and hygienic application.
Replens™ pH is very well tolerated and its pH-normalizing effect has been proven in clinical studies.
Replens™ pH is suitable for use with condoms and may be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding (after consultation with the treating physician).

FAQs - Answers to frequently asked questions
How does Replens™ pH work?
Replens™ pH forms a protective film on the vaginal skin and, through its pH-normalizing buffer capacity, ensures a healthy acidic pH in the vagina. This promotes the colonization and proliferation of the body's own lactic acid bacteria. This means Replens™ pH creates the conditions for a healthy and strong defensive vaginal balance.
The vaginal mucosa constantly renews itself. Within 3 days of application, the Replens™ pH vaginal gel gradually detaches from the vaginal skin and is expelled with the dead cells via vaginal discharge. This renewal process is promoted by Replens™ pH, so that the vaginal skin becomes softer and more supple.
What does Replens™ pH contain and what is a "bioadhesive gel formula"?
Replens™ pH contains substances that have been used in medical products for years (see instructions for use).
In the "patented bioadhesive gel formulation" of Replens™ pH, two of these proven substances have been specifically used to achieve high adhesion to the vaginal skin: a gelling agent (carbomer) and a swelling agent (polycarbophil). This allows Replens™ pH to adhere to the vaginal skin like a protective film and have a pH-normalizing effect. Replens™ pH is excreted with vaginal discharge within approximately 3 days, during the natural cell renewal process.
Replens™ pH is hormone- and paraben-free and contains no dyes or deodorants. Nor does it contain substances that are spermicidal. Replens™ pH can be used with (natural rubber) latex, polyisoprene condoms, but not polyurethane condoms.
When is the best time to apply Replens™ pH?
You can apply Replens™ pH at any time (regardless of the time of day). However, it is not recommended during your period.
For acute infections, daily application is recommended.
For prevention or after a vaginal infection, Replens™ pH can be applied every 3 days.
When should Replens™ pH not be used?
Replens™ pH should not be used during your period as it can combine with menstrual blood and form clumps. However, you can use Replens™ pH immediately before your period starts, so it can adhere to the vaginal skin before menstrual blood flow begins.
You should not use Replens™ pH if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
What is pH and what is the significance of vaginal pH?
The pH value (Latin: potentia Hydrogenii) is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration: It measures the strength of the acidic or basic effect of an aqueous solution on a scale of 0-14. Water is neutral with a pH of 7. If the pH value is less than 7, the solution is acidic. For values greater than 7, the pH value indicates basic properties.
The pH value of the moist, warm vaginal environment is between 3.6 and 4.5.
Such an acidic environment is necessary:
- so that no pathogens can multiply in the vagina and spread towards the uterus and ovaries, and
- so that the beneficial lactic acid bacteria remain stable in their number and activity and can contribute to maintaining a low pH value.
What is bacterial vaginosis and what is its significance?
Bacterial vaginosis is the most common type of vaginal infection. It increases the risk of ascending infections of the cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, as well as urinary tract infections. It can also make it easier for sexually transmitted diseases/STDs (e.g., chlamydia infections and trichomoniasis) to take hold.
Bacterial vaginosis is considered a significant risk factor in pregnancy and can lead to premature births, low birth weight in infants, and inflammation of the uterine lining after birth.
The medical product Replens™ pH Vaginal Gel is awarded the green AUROSAN seal, as only the exact amount of the product required for a (sterile) application is supplied. This means that little or no unusable residue is left after application.
