The CultiControl reference microorganisms from the ATCC(R) collection are lyophilized and available as a product with 5 pellets, thus suitable for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank establishments.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with varying amounts of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you wish to test provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality controls. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is handling reference strains subject to approval?
The requirement for approval when using reference strains in registered medical laboratories, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to your responsible supervisory authority, e.g., the district government (Regierungspräsidium).
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and re-culturing of the stock cultures) and store them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly establish fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
