Lubri-Sil™ I.C. Silicone urinary catheters with Bard® Hydrogel and Bactiguard®-noble metal coating available again!

The Bactiguard® coated transurethral catheters, which lead to a clinically proven reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (UTIs, CAUTIs), have now been reclassified from MDD to MDR and are available again.

There are now two variants:

Bardex™ I.C.: Latex core, coated with Bard® Hydrogel and Bactiguard®

and

Lubri-Sil™ I.C.: Silicone core coated with Bard® Hydrogel and Bactiguard® noble metal alloy

The I.C. stands for "Infection Control", i.e. the above-mentioned clinically proven reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (UTIs, CAUTIs).

The catheters are coated both inside and out with Bard® Hydrogel and Bactiguard® .

The Bactiguard® technology is based on an ultra-thin layer of a noble metal alloy (gold, silver, and platinum components) that is firmly bonded to the catheter surface. Upon contact with fluid (urine), the noble metals generate a galvanic effect that reduces microbial adhesion. By reducing the adhesion of bacteria to the catheter surface, biofilm formation and thus the risk of bacterial urinary tract infections are reduced.

The Bactiguard® coating is firmly bonded to the catheter core, so no release of toxic or pharmacologically active substances occurs in relevant quantities.

The catheters are supplied in packaging units of 12 and can also be prescribed as practice supplies in some statutory health insurance associations.
They can be obtained either directly from AUROSAN, or through pharmaceutical wholesalers, pharmacies, and medical supply stores.
