Indole Reagent - 1x15ml

Indole reagent (Kovacs' reagent) is used for the biochemical differentiation of various bacterial species (Enterobacteriaceae) by detecting the enzyme tryptophanase. (This enzyme cleaves tryptophan into indole and ammonia). Indole reagent contains a red cyanine dye that reacts with indole. Accordingly, a color change to red is considered a positive indole reaction.

Which bacterial strains are indole-positive can be found in the codebooks of the respective color series used (e.g., Entero Pluri, Oxi/Ferm Pluri) or in the biochemical profiles of reference strains. Please contact us for further information if required.
