The CultiControl reference organisms from the ATCC(R) collection are lyophilized and are available as a product with 5 pellets, i.e., for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank installations.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to check provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality controls. If you have any questions or need help, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is handling reference strains subject to approval?
The requirement for approval when using reference strains in registered medical laboratories, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to the supervisory authority responsible for you, e.g., the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowing the stock cultures) and store them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly create fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this, you can choose between CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
