ESBL Kit D76C (4x 50 sheets, Mast)

Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) are bacterial enzymes responsible for resistance to penicillins and third- and fourth-generation cephalosporins within the order Enterobacterales. Most ESBL producers are susceptible to cephamycins and carbapenems, although phenotypic resistance to the latter can arise through the combination of ESBL and porin loss (AmpC).

For the phenotypic confirmation of ESBL production in Enterobacterales according to EBM 7-2018 for the extended antibiogram (21774), cephalosporin test discs are used in combination with clavulanic acid. EUCAST recommends (as of Q4-2019) the use of combination test discs for the phenotypic confirmation of ESBL production in Enterobacterales with the following loading:
Cefotaxime 5 µg +/- Clavulanic acid 10 µg
Ceftazidime 10 µg +/- Clavulanic acid 10 µg.

Other kits are therefore no longer EUCAST compliant.
The kit is supplied with 4 cartridges of 50 discs each and should be stored dry in the refrigerator.
