The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are lyophilized and available as a product with 5 pellets, i.e., for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank facilities.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the equally ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial with rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the equally ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with varying amounts of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to verify provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality controls. If you have any questions or need help, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is handling reference strains subject to approval?
A permit requirement for the use of reference strains in a registered medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to the responsible supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I need to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option of (1) maintaining the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and re-growth of the stock cultures) and storing them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g. Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly create fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this purpose, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
