The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, which means either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for several strain banking facilities.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
Usually, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to check provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality controls. If you have any questions or need help with this, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is handling reference strains subject to approval?
A permit requirement for using reference strains in a registered medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend that you informally report this to your competent supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to either (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowth of the stock cultures) and store them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g. Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you work without your own cryobank and regularly establish fresh cultures from fresh pellets. You can choose between CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
