The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, which means either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for several strain banking facilities.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial with rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as products with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
Usually, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to check provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. If you have any questions or need help with this, please contact us. We will be happy to help you and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is the handling of reference strains subject to approval?
A requirement for approval when using reference strains in a registered medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to your responsible supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowing the stock cultures) and store them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g. Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you work without your own cryobank and regularly establish fresh cultures from fresh pellets . For this, you can choose between CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
