The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, which means either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank establishments.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
Generally, the instructions for use (IFU) for the products/devices/methods you want to check provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is the handling of reference strains subject to approval?
An approval requirement for the use of reference strains in registered medical laboratories, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to your responsible supervisory authority, e.g., the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option of either (1) maintaining the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and re-culturing of the stock cultures) for long-term storage. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly establish fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this, you can choose between CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
