The CultiControl reference organisms from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, which means either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank installations.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with different numbers of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
The instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to test usually provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. If you have any questions or need help with this, please contact us. We will be happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is handling reference strains subject to approval?
There is no clear regulation regarding the need for approval when using reference strains in registered medical laboratories, limited to the purpose of quality management for your in-vitro diagnostics. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to your competent supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowth of the stock cultures) and store them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly create fresh cultures from fresh pellets . For this, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
