The CultiControl reference organisms from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product with 5 pellets, i.e. for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for several strain bank setups.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference organisms correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
As a rule, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to check provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality controls. If you have any questions or need help with this, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is the handling of reference strains subject to approval?
A permit requirement for the use of reference strains in registered medical laboratories, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. We therefore recommend that you make an informal report to the responsible supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option of (1) maintaining the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowth of the stock cultures) and storing them long-term. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly prepare fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
