The counting grid is divided into 9 large squares, each with a side length of 1 mm and an area of 1 mm². These are used for leukocyte counting. Each large square is divided into 16 squares, each with a side length of 0.2 mm and an area of 0.04 mm². These squares correspond in size to the group squares (and are used for erythrocyte counting), but are not further subdivided.
