Bardex™ I.C. Urinary Catheter

The Bactiguard® coated transurethral catheters, which lead to a clinically comprehensively proven reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (UTI, CAUTI), have now been re-approved from MDD to MDR and are available again.

There are now two variants: 

Bardex™ I.C.: Latex core, coated with Bard® Hydrogel and Bactiguard®

and 

Lubri-Sil I.C.: Silicone core coated with Bard® Hydrogel and Bactiguard®

The I.C. stands for "Infection Control", i.e. the clinically proven reduction of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (UTI, CAUTI).

The catheters are coated both internally and externally with Bard® Hydrogel and Bactiguard® .

Bactiguard® technology is based on a wafer-thin layer of a precious metal alloy (gold, silver and platinum components), which is firmly bonded to the catheter surface. In contact with liquid (urine), the precious metals generate a galvanic effect that reduces microbial adhesion. The reduced adhesion of bacteria to the catheter surface reduces biofilm formation and thus the risk of bacterial urinary tract infections.

The Bactiguard® coating is firmly bonded to the catheter core, so that no toxic or pharmacologically active substances are released in relevant quantities.

The catheters are supplied in packs of 12 and can also be prescribed as practice supplies in some KVAs.
They can be obtained either directly from AUROSAN, or via pharmaceutical wholesalers or pharmacies and medical supply stores.
