The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are freeze-dried and available as a product consisting of 5 pellets, thus suitable for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain bank establishments.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the similarly ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial of rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the similarly ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with varying numbers of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
Generally, the instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you wish to test provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. Should you have any questions or require assistance, please contact us. We are happy to help and provide you with a non-binding offer.
Is the handling of reference strains subject to approval?
The requirement for approval when using reference strains in registered medical laboratories, limited to the purpose of quality management of your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend an informal notification to your responsible supervisory authority, e.g., the district government (Regierungspräsidium).
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and re-growing of strain cultures) for long-term storage. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g., Cryobank® System).
Alternatively, (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly prepare fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
