Anti-CCP stands for Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Antibodies. These are autoantibodies directed against the body's own proteins. The blood test is primarily used to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Anti-CCP antibodies are relatively specific for this disease and can often be detected early in the course of the disease.

A positive finding means:

• Positive Anti-CCP: strongly suggests rheumatoid arthritis.
• Higher values may be associated with a more aggressive course and a higher risk of joint damage.
• However, a positive value alone does not prove the diagnosis, as Anti-CCP can occasionally occur in other diseases. The assessment is always made in conjunction with symptoms, examination, and other laboratory values (e.g., rheumatoid factor).

What does a negative finding mean?

• A negative Anti-CCP test does not reliably rule out rheumatoid arthritis, especially not in early stages of the disease.
