The CultiControl reference strains from the ATCC(R) collection are lyophilized and available as a product with 5 pellets, i.e., for either 5 monthly cultures according to EUCAST or for multiple strain banking.

The Quanti-CultiControl reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products, but are available with only one pellet and one vial with rehydration solution.
The Microtrol™ reference strains correspond to the identically ATCC®-numbered CultiControl products and are available as a product with different quantities of pellets.
Which reference strains do you need?
The instructions for use (IFU) of the products / devices / methods you want to verify usually provide information on the recommended strains and quality controls for internal quality control. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact us. We will be happy to help you and provide a non-binding offer.
Is the handling of reference strains subject to approval?
The requirement for approval when using reference strains in a registered medical laboratory, limited to the purpose of quality management for your in-vitro diagnostics, is not clearly regulated. Therefore, we recommend that you informally notify the competent supervisory authority, e.g. the district government.
Do I have to repurchase the strains regularly?
You have the option to either (1) maintain the strains in your own cryobank (freezing and regrowth of the stock cultures) for long-term storage. For this, we recommend Multi-CultiControl (1 pellet + 1 rehydrating fluid vial) combined with a storage system (e.g. Cryobank® System).
Alternatively, (2) you can work without your own cryobank and regularly create fresh cultures from fresh pellets. For this purpose, you can choose between the CultiControl or Microtrol™ products.
