Control strains
Reference strains for internal quality controls according to RiliBÄK
Reference strains are positive or negative controls in the microbiological laboratory and are required for internal quality management (QM) in accordance with the guidelines of the German Medical Association (RiliBÄK). Reference strains are characterized by the fact that they are microorganisms of defined origin with properties described in detail (e.g. morphology, biochemistry, resistance patterns).
We primarily offer you the reference strains of the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) in different versions, optimized for your laboratory processes.
Please use the search field in our web shop above to find the germ you are interested by using the ATCC number or name.
KWIK-STIK™ (sticks with lyophilisate)
The microorganisms of the KWIK-STICK™ are a maximum of 4 passages away from the reference culture and are available in packs of 2 and 6. Each KWIK-STICK™ unit includes a cartridge containing the microorganism as a lyophilized pellet. This cartridge also contains an ampoule with hydration solution in the lid and a swab for vaccination.
LYFO DISK™ (pellets with lyophilisate)
The LYFO DISK™ microorganisms are a maximum of 4 passages away from the reference culture and are delivered in a resealable vial. This contains 6 lyophilized microorganism pellets and a moisture-absorbing fabric to prevent unwanted moisture accumulation.
Microtrol™ (platelets with lyophilisate).
Microtrol™ platelets are live, freeze-dried reference strains that are fixed to lens-shaped gelatin-activated carbon substrate using a patented process. One sales unit contains 25 platelets.
We show how to handle reference germs in our application videos in the self-study section.
For longer-term storage and preservation of biological material, we recommend setting up a cryobank.
