A wide variety of racks are also available for benchtop work or for safe and long-term freezer storage of tubes. The tubes and caps are manufactured from the same material and have the same coefficients of expansion to ensure even expansion and contraction rates during temperature changes. The tubes can be centrifuged at up to 20,000 x g and are suitable for use within a temperature range of -196 °C to 121 °C, making them suitable for boiling applications and frozen sample storage.
